How is the Catalhoyuk archaeological site linked with a goddess cult?
This site has figured heavily in the idea of an ancient "goddess cult". Why? What does Professor Hodder think of this idea? What evidence is for or against the idea?
One Response to “How is the Catalhoyuk archaeological site linked with a goddess cult?”

Well, Hodder has excavated only a fraction
of the site compared to Mellaart… so you
might want to read Mellaart’s book which
provides a great deal more information.
Next, even if Catal Hoyuk didn’t exist there
is a wealth of other evidence. You might
want to refer to the works of archeologists
such as Gordon Childe, who laid the foundations
for the Kurgan invasion hypothesis; Jacquetta
Hawkes, who began the discussion of ancient
gender-egalitarian societies; and Marija Gimbutas,
who demonstrated that egalitarian societies and
Goddess worship were in fact typical throughout
late-Neolithic Europe and the Middle East.
